Our Story
In 2002, I had our first sweet baby around the same time my mother was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. Desiring to be home with both of them, I spent many hours researching, learning, and ultimately building my first online boutique, at a time when the online shopping world was still fairly new. By the time our third sweet baby had been born, I was finding it difficult to be the mother I wanted to be while homeschooling and also trying to build a business. Although it was difficult to give up my dream of creating a business our whole family could one day be involved in, I knew this was a season where my focus needed to be on pouring into my little family. But dreams don't have to die... Sometimes they are dreams for a different season.
Fast forward several years... There are now four sweet children and after 12 years of homeschooling, that season, too, has now come to an end. I was substitute teaching in order to have the same schedule as my children and daily encountering so many children in our Appalachian region with heartbreaking situations. I'll never forget the little girl who showed me her handmade "sketch book", made of notebook paper stapled together. She had dreams of becoming an artist but her mother told her she could not afford sketch books. Or the little boy who asked me if I could help him find a new coat because the rats had chewed his, which I could clearly see. Or the teenagers who shared their hopes for their lives but were facing challenges greater than anything I could ever imagine. It's hard to dream about your future when you aren't even sure of your next meal. I was so broken one day while working at our local high school. I knew it was time to re-kindle my own dream of online business, because I could never make the difference in the world that I desired to make on a substitute teacher's pay. Though it has taken a few years to come to fruition, I began the process of forming a new business that very week.
Why are people blessed? To be a blessing. That is the heart behind "Like Those Who Dream". Not only do I want to build a legacy for my own family, but I want our family to be able to help others realize their own dreams, whether that dream is a new pair of shoes to wear to school, or a college education. Thank you for visiting us today! We are just beginning, but we won't "despise our day of small beginnings." We want to be your destination for beautiful shoes and clothing, special pieces of jewelry, and unique toys and gifts. Please come back and see us as we grow!
